“Rolfing”
is a registered service mark of The Rolf
® Institute of Structural
Integration. The International headquarters located in Boulder,
Colorado, USA. There are also school locations in Brazil, Japan,
Germany, Australia and more. Almost every major country has a certified
Rolfer, or has heard about Rolfing.
In my own words, it is a
specialized form of deep tissue massage integrative therapy that
balances the body in gravity. While most massage sessions use wonderful
techniques to relax you; in addition Rolfing integrates body structure; re-assembling the person
into a more balanced physical space.
A person receives
the benefits of a massage plus the feeling of cohesiveness. Many of my
clients report feeling lighter and more able to flow with the pace of
life, and are more resilient to physical and energetic stress.
The professional
certified Rolfing training involves intensive schooling at The
Rolf®
Institute of Structural Integration, and is training beyond
the basic massage curriculum. Though there are other forms of ‘structural
integration’ techniques taught in the massage classroom, these are
not to be confused with Rolfing®.
However, the basic training at registered massage
schools provides education and opportunities for massage
therapists. Rolfing is another Excellent technique to help
people live better and healthier lives.
The Rolfing
Technique removes strain
patterns in the body structure, before they become pain patterns; or
before existing pain becomes increasing more debilitating. Rolfers are
highly skilled at working within your comfort zone, and can accomplish a
lot in a state of total peace and relaxation. Many of my Rolfing
Sessions incorporate Yoga postures and simple stretches to enhance the benefits.
It is up to each person to
decide how many sessions to experience. Ten Basic Sessions
is a good idea, however, each person has individual goals. You will
receive benefit from one to any number of sessions. Of
course, the more sessions you have in a lifetime, the more integrated
and happier your body becomes.
You do not "loose" the benefits
of a session(s) if you must space them out over time. Each session
builds on the one previous. It is similar to building a house;
once a good foundation is down, it does not disintegrate and fall apart.
The builders go back over time and add to the foundation and
continue building the house. The more work done on the house, the more
detailed and whole the house becomes. The same is true of the Rolfing
process..
Examples of
only a few reasons to seek Rolfing: Trauma sustained from car
accidents, body injuries, falls, general body stress, repetitive work
strain, neck, back and eye tension from excessive computer use, and all foot symptoms.
Athletes can use Rolfing to
enhance agility, speed and prevent injury. Dancers may use Rolfing to
help with core stability, body coordination; encouraging support and
grace. In addition, music performers especially violinists, pianists, cellists,
and singers can use Rolfing to remove constant strain patterns in body
structure from continuous positioning. People do not need a specific
reason to seek Rolfing and many decide to use it as a preventative
health measure.
Rolfing restores
ease of movement, allowing the body and also the mind to become more at
peace. When the major connective tissue, fascia, is not
pulling itself in uncomfortable directions; people sleep better,
achieve more during working hours, and the body itself requires less
energy to operate, hence, a more efficient, healthier system.
People from all
ages, including young children to older citizens benefit from
Rolfing!

Why I Became a Rolfer:
-
I Love Rolfing! I originally began a
career as a Licensed Massage Therapist and, although it was fun and
rewarding, I wanted to offer my clients more. I have always loved
studying anatomy and human structure, and wanted to further integrate
this knowledge into my practice. Rolfing is a wonderful interactive
journey for both body therapist and client; and for me, it acknowledges
the unity of mind, body, and spirit.
